What It Is

A sustained engagement built around who you actually are as a leader, not who you should become.

Executive coaching at this level is not skills training or performance management by another name. It is a structured engagement designed to produce lasting change in how a leader thinks, communicates, and executes.

Foundation: Leadership Value Assessment
Every coaching engagement begins with a rigorous, career-spanning LVA. It surfaces your actual enterprise value, the situations you are reliably sought out for, the risk you quietly reduce, and the pattern of impact that persists regardless of title or context. That document governs the coaching from day one.
Dimension: Human Signal
Coaching engagements include a Human Signal dimension that identifies which of your leadership capabilities are irreplaceable and how to develop and deploy them intentionally. This is not a separate track. It is the lens that makes the LVA more precise for leaders operating in conditions AI is reshaping.
What It Addresses

The conditions that coaching is built to resolve.

01
Leadership transition. Stepping into a larger scope, a new organization, or a role with different stakeholder dynamics than anything you have navigated before.
02
Capability and scope misalignment. When the enterprise judgment you are exercising consistently exceeds your formal authority, and that gap is beginning to cost you.
03
Executive presence and influence. How you are perceived in the room does not match what you know you are capable of. The signal is not getting through.
04
Decision altitude under pressure. High-stakes environments require judgment that holds under ambiguity. Developing that capacity intentionally, not by accident.
05
Sustained performance without erosion. Senior leaders who operate at high intensity over time without deliberate practice and reflection tend to narrow. This engagement widens.
The Evidence

What the research says about sustained coaching engagement.

The case for executive coaching at senior levels is not abstract. The data is consistent across organizations and industries.

7x
Median return on coaching investment reported in PwC and ICF global study
PwC / International Coaching Federation
88%
Productivity increase when training is combined with sustained coaching, versus 22% from training alone
Olivero, Bane & Kopelman
40%+
Of executive transitions fail within 18 months, at a cost of 1.5 to 5x annual salary
Industry research, multiple sources
"The coaching cost is typically 1 to 3 percent of a leader's total compensation. The derailment cost is 150 to 500 percent of it." Stratos Coaching Research, 2026

A VP-level derailment costs between $500,000 and $1.5 million when factoring search, onboarding, productivity loss, and team disruption. A sustained coaching engagement at that level runs a fraction of that exposure. The math is not complicated.

What It Is Not

Clear boundaries matter.

Skills training or a leadership program with a fixed curriculum
Performance management or a remediation track
Therapy or mental health support
A substitute for the leader's own judgment and decision authority
A one-time engagement; this is a sustained arc of work, not a single session
Expected Outcomes

What a sustained engagement produces.

The pattern across engagements is consistent: sharper clarity on where your enterprise value is highest, improved ability to operate at the altitude your role requires, and a more deliberate relationship between your judgment and the decisions that depend on it.

Leaders who complete sustained engagements report expanded scope of influence, stronger executive relationships, and improved ability to hold complexity without narrowing. The goal is not a better version of what you have been doing. It is a leader who operates from a more accurate understanding of who they are and what they are built for.

What It Is

Engagement-based advisory for organizations navigating a specific condition.

Executive consulting at Sagebrush is not a retainer model. It is scoped advisory work for organizations that have identified a specific leadership, structural, or execution challenge that warrants an experienced external perspective.

The work addresses conditions at the intersection of leadership, organizational design, and strategic execution: where teams have stalled, where senior alignment has broken down, where a transition is creating more turbulence than expected, or where an implementation is not taking hold.

Scope, timeline, and deliverables are defined at the outset. No ongoing retainer. No scope creep by design.

For organizations navigating AI adoption, engagements may incorporate the Human Signal framework to assess how human leadership capability is positioned relative to what automation is changing.

Typical Engagements

The conditions this work is built for.

01
Leadership transition advisory. A new executive is in seat and the organization is not stabilizing on the expected timeline. External perspective on what is actually happening and what the leader needs to do differently.
02
Team realignment. A senior team that is technically competent but functionally misaligned. The work surfaces what is unspoken and blocking coherence, and builds a path forward that the team can actually execute.
03
Strategic implementation gaps. A direction has been set and is not moving. The gap is rarely the strategy. It is almost always the human and organizational conditions that determine whether a strategy becomes executable.
04
Change adoption analysis. Transformation initiatives that are not landing as designed. Identifying the resistance patterns, the trust gaps, and the structural conditions that are defeating the change before addressing them.
05
Organizational coherence under pressure. When complexity, politics, or rapid change have created misalignment between strategy, systems, and people, this engagement restores the conditions for effective execution.
How It Works

Scoped, time-bounded, and outcome-defined.

Every consulting engagement begins with a scoping conversation that defines the condition, the desired outcome, the stakeholders involved, and the timeline. A scope-of-work is documented and agreed upon before work begins.

Engagements are delivered through structured observation, stakeholder conversations, analysis, and advisory sessions with the sponsoring leader or team. Deliverables are determined by the scope, not a standard template.

No retainer. Engagements end when the work is done. Follow-on engagements are scoped separately.

What It Is Not

Boundaries worth stating clearly.

A large-scale management consulting engagement with a team of analysts
A retainer or ongoing advisory relationship without defined scope
HR consulting, organizational development program design, or training delivery
A substitute for the organization's own leadership making and owning the decisions
The right fit for conditions that have not yet been clearly defined
Expected Outcomes

What organizations leave with.

A consulting engagement produces a clear picture of the actual condition, a set of specific recommendations the organization can act on, and, in most cases, restored conditions for effective leadership and execution within the defined scope.

The measure of a successful engagement is not the quality of the analysis. It is whether the condition that prompted the engagement has been addressed. That distinction shapes how this work is approached from the first conversation.

The right engagement starts with the right conversation.
