The Turn

A career can become who you are. Leaving it can feel like an ending.

For decades, work gave your days a shape and your answer to "What do you do?" Then the calendar empties, the title goes away, and the question gets harder. Many people feel this most when they expected to feel free.

It doesn't have to be an ending. Everything you learned along the way, your judgment, your experience, the way people relied on you, is still yours. The question is where you want to spend it now: a new field, part-time work on your own terms, the interest you set aside for thirty years, or more time with the people who matter most.

Why It Matters

Being ready financially isn't the same as being ready.

46%
Of adults 62 and older lack fulfillment: a sense of purpose, wholeness and connection

45%
Of retirees who work do it for social and emotional reasons, not just the paycheck

Retirees say they enjoy life more since leaving work, with more time for family and long-postponed interests

The difference is knowing what you're moving toward. That's what this work is for.

No one has all the answers when they're facing something new. What helps is finding the anchors that matter, like purpose, family and the life you want, and using them as landmarks when the path isn't mapped yet. If you know what you're anchored to, you can find your way forward. Sagebrush
Who It Is For

For anyone stepping away from full-time work.

Planning Ahead
Leaving in the next year or two
You have time to design the change instead of reacting to it, and you want the first year to feel like a beginning.
Recently Left
The first months after
The relief has worn off and the days feel shapeless. You want structure that doesn't feel like a job, and a reason to look forward to Tuesday.
Ready for Different
Something you set aside
A new field, part-time or advisory work, a cause, a craft, or more time with your kids and grandchildren. You have ideas, just no plan yet.
What We Work On

Five conversations that turn a transition into a design.

01
Who you are beyond the title. A look back at the moments that shaped you, so you carry forward what matters and leave behind what no longer fits.
02
What your experience is for now. Your wisdom, judgment and relationships don't retire. We explore where you want them to go.
03
Possibilities worth trying. We list what you're curious about and choose a few small experiments to try before you commit to anything.
04
A rhythm that works. A weekly shape for your time and energy that gives structure without feeling like a job.
05
What you want to leave behind. What you want to pass on, and to whom.
What You Keep

A statement of who you are, beyond any job title, in your own words.

Your possibilities map: the options you're exploring and the first step for each.

A whole-life view of how the pieces of your life fit together.

Your first-year plan: a simple weekly rhythm and how you'll review what's working.

A 90-day check-in to see what's working and adjust.

How It Works

About four months, at your pace.

We start with a Discovery Session to see whether this is the right fit. Then six video sessions, roughly every two weeks, with a 90-day check-in afterward. Between sessions you try small things and notice what gives you energy. We bring that back and refine together.

If you'd like, your spouse or partner is welcome to join one session, since this chapter often involves both of you. It's entirely your choice.

What It Is Not

Honest about what this is not.

· Financial, investment, tax, legal or benefits advice, including Social Security, pensions and Medicare. Those questions belong with your financial planner, and I'm glad to work alongside them.
· Therapy or counseling
· A retirement readiness test or a personality assessment
· Job placement or a guarantee of outcomes
